‘FLY LIKE THEM’
brand: LucasFilm in support of Tuskegee Airmen Inc.
idea: Ahead of Veteran’s Day 2020, we wanted to change the narrative and shine a light on the first Black pilots who had to fight for our country abroad while fighting against racism domestically. Their message of resilience became more important than ever during a tumultuous year in the US.
Using the hashtag #FlyLikeThem, we teamed up with Lucasfilm to educate young people about their resilience and ability to rise above the odds. We shared quotes from the Airmen, highlighted facts from their World War II experiences, and encouraged everyone to share personal stories inspired by their heroic examples. Celebrities got in on it too by sharing how the Tuskegee Airmen inspire them in their daily lives in short videos with the hashtag #FlyLikeThem
As the campaign grew, so did our community. Across both Twitter and Instagram, we saw people rally together behind the Tuskegee Airmen’s story. People were committing to #FlyLikeThem leading to 40.6+MM impressions. Influential people like Samuel L. Jackson and Robin Roberts joined the cause.
